Title: Developing Targeted Web Applications for Climate Data Exploration

Presenter: Darin Schulte, postdoc, NC CSC

Abstract:   Web-based applications targeted at specific research / management questions are a potentially valuable tool for allowing end-users to explore climate data sets without requiring expensive software purchases or programming expertise. In this discussion, I will outline our progress in creating a web-based application for comparing multiple evapotranspiration models throughout a region of the Central US. Specifically, the focus will be on the challenges in processing spatial and non-spatial datasets for analysis, issues with visualizing large sets of results, and the development of a “small scale” proof-of-concept web application for multiple model comparisons. I will also briefly describe our current efforts in scaling up the current application to global data sets via the Google Cloud Platform.

Note: All NC CSC funded projects are expected to have at least one representative from their team present for these monthly calls.
