Title: Vulnerability, Impacts and Adaptation: Two Examples of Conceptual Frameworks

Abstract: I will present two examples of Vulnerability, Impacts and Adaptation frameworks, developed at the National Center for Atmospheric Research.

First, I will discuss a conceptual/analytical framework that is focused on urban vulnerability to extreme heat. This framework has served as a foundation for a large multidisciplinary project on integrated modeling of urban extreme heat risk. Then, I will present a more generalized version of the framework that incorporates social science perspectives from different disciplines and includes a broader representation of vulnerability, impacts and adaptation of socio-ecological systems in the contexts of climatic extremes as well as climate variability and change.
